Percy Thomas Willis arrived into the world at 2.37pm on Friday, January 2.
Mum Kelsey O’Reilly had been in labour for 16 hours, with partner Steven Willis at her side.
As there were no other expectant mothers at the hospital when they arrived, the pair were told early they may have the milestone for 2026.
“It’s quite nice (to have the first baby of the New Year),” Kelsey said.
“Labour started about 10pm on New Year’s Day, and there were a few minor complications, but otherwise it all went fine.”
Percy’s arrival for the Mayrung couple is another highlight on their love journey, which started in late 2024.
“My sister Briana was living in Deniliquin and had tried to set us up. She told me about Steven, and told Steven about me but we were both like ‘whatever’.
“Then we matched on Tinder, and when I asked my sister if she knew him, she told me ‘that’s who I was trying to set you up with’.
“We went on a date and we fell in love. So I guess I should have listened to my sister.
“Getting pregnant was a surprise, but a wonderful surprise.”
Kelsey, who is originally from Koondrook, was living in Melbourne when she met Steven, and later moved to Mayrung to join him on the family farm.
Percy is a grandson for Brian and Jamain Willis of Mayrung, and Joanne and Michael O’Reilly of Koondrook.
