Permits for firewood collection

Firewood permits for Murray Valley National Park are part of a carefully managed system designed to balance community needs with environmental protection.

These permits are available to eligible local residents and allow the collection of fallen timber only, ensuring that native vegetation and wildlife habitats are preserved.

Cutting down standing trees is strictly prohibited, and firewood collected under a permit must be used for personal domestic purposes rather than commercial sale.

The collection period generally runs from April 1 to September 30 each year, and is restricted to designated zones within the park.

These areas may change depending on environmental conditions, such as flooding or the availability of fallen wood.

Permits also include clear limits on quantity, often allowing a set amount of wood per household annually, and must be carried during collection and transport.

By following permit conditions, residents can access firewood responsibly while helping to protect the ecological integrity of Murray Valley National Park.
