The congregation will be back next Sunday, but as the priest will be having a well-earned break, things will be a little different than usual.

If you enjoy gardening, then you will have a treat in store next weekend.
The grounds of Mathoura Public School will be the venue for the plant sale and market on Saturday, October 18.
The inaugural event last year was a huge success, making a considerable amount of money for the school.
It will be a fantastic day with a wonderful variety of stalls, including plants, macramé, potheads, soaps, art, a coffee van, and delicious treats from the P&C cake stall and barbecue.
There’s also an online fundraising auction which has already started, and a scarecrow competition on the day.

Okay, so Daylight Saving is with us again.
But be honest – how many people still have at least one clock on the old time?
And how many nearly fell off a ladder in the attempt to make the change?
Well – love it or hate it – it’s with us.
Before we know it, it will be accepted as ‘the norm’ and we will be taking it in our strides – until of course it will be time to change back again.

School holidays are also with us, and there are heaps of visitors around enjoying the surroundings and conditions.
Mathoura Bowling Club and the Timbercutter Restaurant have both reported serving up 100 plus meals on regular occasions – and what great meals they are, we’re very lucky to have them.
Traffic on the highway has been crazy with the Ute Muster at Deni – combined with road works around the halfway point.
Why is it that it’s not until we are ground to a halt behind 71 other vehicles at the stopping point that the wisdom of travelling along Line Rd comes to mind.

After many years as your columnist, I have decided it’s time to pass the torch.
I intend to retire from writing the ‘Mathoura Diary’ column at the end of this year.
I would love for someone to take over from me, to ensure local news is provided to the Deniliquin Pastoral Times each week.
If you’d like to know more about what this entails, or would like to volunteer for the job, please contact me, or Pastoral Times content manager Zoe McMaugh at zoe.mcmaugh@denipt.com.au.
