Valued at more than $2 million combined, a budget variation was required to ensure the projects could proceed.
While mostly covered by external funding previously provided by the NSW Government, the variation includes funding for the final stage of emergency road repairs and natural disaster recovery resulting from the 2023 flooding events.
Council’s contribution is modest compared to the overall investment, which totals $2.37 million for road repairs and $1.1 million for disaster recovery.
Council said while its financial position remains solid, the adjustments will reduce cash reserves.
This may have a flow-on effect on finances.
Edward River Mayor Ashley Hall said this is a standard part of managing major projects, and council is taking proactive steps to maintain long-term financial sustainability.
“A review of priorities will be presented early in 2026 to ensure we remain on a responsible path.
"These works are essential for community safety and resilience, and it is vital that they progress.
“Council is committed to managing our finances responsibly, and we’ll continue planning ahead to make sure we remain strong and sustainable into the future.”
