Led by a group of local women, a community meeting on what it will take to reactivate the group will be hosted in Deniliquin on June 15.
Among the local group is Sarah Hooke, who said interest already exceeds the minimum number of members required.
She said the information session at The Crossing Cafe from 2pm on Sunday, June 15 will enable others to learn more and get involved.
The Deniliquin CWA went into recess in early 2022 when it was unable to elect a full executive committee.
It was believed to have been prompted by the departure of some long serving members.
Mrs Hooke said the Deni group would again be registered with the CWA of Victoria, and that the minimum requirement is to have six financial members.
She said the catch cry of the organisation is ‘there’s more to the CWA than tea and scones’, highlighting that the Deni group would be a social outlet, charitable organisation and advocacy vehicle for women.
“There’s a group of us who have been chatting about this for a little while now,” Mrs Hooke said.
“I first reached out to the CWA for information late last year when I saw the building in the Waring Gardens and realised what it used to be.
“We want to bring women together - women of all ages and backgrounds.
“We’re looking at holding workshops, because there are so many creative women in our community, fundraising for various things and advocating for women in our community.
“We also just want to have a bit of fun.”
Mrs Hooke said the success of the recent Motherland event in Deniliquin was further impetus to get the local CWA going again.
“So many women in our community came together for the event, and we want to re-create and channel that sort of energy back into the community.
“We did apply to Edward River Council to use the CWA Hall but were unsuccessful, but we would love to secure a permanent location for our group.
“The idea is that the space could be used by women from out of town to do work if they’re in town, or for them to have somewhere pleasant to wait when picking up their children from school, or even just coming together to socialise.”
Helping to host the Deniliquin information session will be CWA of Victoria representative Gwen White.
Anyone interested in learning more about the CWA’s role and benefits of being a member is invited to attend.
