From responding to bush fires and grass fires, to assisting during storms, motor vehicle accidents, and community emergencies, volunteers across the zone work tirelessly to ensure the safety of local residents.
They often give up time with family, work commitments, and personal responsibilities to answer the call for help.
Mid Murray Zone operational officer Jodie Graham said the efforts of members never go unnoticed.
“Our members are the backbone of our communities.
“Their dedication, resilience, and willingness to help others at any hour of the day or night is something we are incredibly proud of.
“Whether on the fireground, behind the scenes, or supporting community education and preparedness, every member plays a vital role.”
Throughout the year, brigade members dedicate countless hours to training, maintaining equipment, conducting hazard reduction activities, and educating communities on how to stay safe during the fire season.
Their work often happens quietly in the background, but its impact is felt across every town and rural community within the Mid Murray Zone.
The zone also acknowledges the support of families, employers, and local communities who stand behind members and make their service possible.
“Volunteering with the Rural Fire Service is more than responding to emergencies.
“It’s about community, teamwork, and looking after one another.
“Our members consistently demonstrate courage, integrity, and selflessness, and we thank them for everything they do.”
