The club recently sponsored four Deniliquin High School students to attend the Rotary Youth Program of Enrichment (RYPEN) at Camp Getaway in Axedale.
For 15-17 year-olds, the weekend uses practical challenges and shared experiences to build confidence, teamwork and leadership skills, particularly among students who have not previously had opportunities to lead.
Following strong support from Deni High and its P&C, the club is considering making this an annual opportunity.
Deniliquin Rotarians also support the Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA), which offers a week of personal and professional development.
This is for young adults aged 18 to 30, and this year’s residential program runs in Malmsbury from November 22-28.
It is about building communication, resilience, problem-solving and leadership skills.
It is not just for established leaders, but also those seeking direction or confidence.
Two local participants have been approved, with another prospective attendee and further sponsored places available.
Rotary Club of Deniliquin covers the full program cost for its sponsored participants.
Local employers are encouraged to nominate suitable staff and support their attendance through appropriate leave.
The club is also assisting another Deniliquin student with an exchange to Japan in 2027 through Rotary Youth Exchange (RYE), opening the door to life and learning in another culture.
“The aim is to nurture confident, community-minded young people whose contributions will benefit others for years to come,” Rotarian Iain Goodway said.
“The club is embracing that future too, welcoming three new members since July, including a 19 year-old.
“Young people interested in RYLA, and anyone keen to support these opportunities or join Rotary, are encouraged to contact the club.”
