“We didn’t complete every project and we didn’t fundraise a record amount of money, but we did serve to change lives in our community and I know what we have done has made an impact in Deniliquin.”
That is how Angela Frino summed up her year as Deniliquin Rotary president last week, before handing over to new president Tony Kew.
Ms Frino said as a club that is all about volunteering and supporting the community, members were given plenty of opportunities in the past 12 months.
The biggest of which was finally celebrating a Deniliquin Rotary milestone.
“I was extremely proud to be at the helm to celebrate the combined 130 years of service together with the Deniliquin Lions Club.
“This is a terrific milestone for both clubs and was a beautiful evening spent with fellowship and fun.
“As mentioned on the night, so much has been achieved in the past 70 plus years of Rotary in Deniliquin, but I believe the focus is now on the future and what can be achieved in the next 70 years.
“We need to foster the new generation of Rotarians to ensure the continued success and service above self for our community. I hope to be part of the 150 year combined celebrations with Lions, and beyond, well into the future!”
In his treasurer’s report, Mr Kew said Deniliquin Rotary still managed to contribute greatly to the community, despite the club being hampered by at least six months of COVID restrictions during the term.
“Once again Deniliquin Rotarians can hold their heads up high, as we have raised and donated over $15,848 dollars to the local community, Rotary Australia, Rotary International and to various other worthy recipients,” he said.
“As Rotarians we also make sure that funds raised by our activities are donated to the community and that all other costs of Rotary are paid for by the Rotarians as part of their yearly subs and dinner costs.”
Ms Frino said the funds raised by Rotary were spread across 11 local groups and organisations.
Ms Frino will continue on as vice president to Mr Kew over the next 12 months.
Other executive members inducted at last week’s changeover dinner are treasurer George Maddison, secretary Di Hand, and director Bev Forchi.
