Boat Club 80 years exhibition
The Peppin Heritage Centre Gallery’s latest exhibition showcases the Deniliquin Boat Club as it celebrates 80 years.
Opening just before Christmas and available to view until February 16, the gallery allows people to see a fascinating historical exhibition filled with photographs, memorabilia, and stories that celebrate the people and passion behind this iconic club.
It’s a journey through time that shows how a volunteer-driven tradition continues to bring our community together on the water and as a part of the town’s river life for eight decades.

Community Pete visits Deni
Deni has attracted an internet celebrity for the festive season, choosing to spend time in town over the last week.
Community Pete, a well known online figure that runs one of Australia’s biggest online communities, made a few posts from Deni over the weekend.
With hundreds of thousands of followers, Community Pete uses social media to relay information, connect people and “make things happen”.
Pete shared pictures of the Deni scenery and commented on Sunday’s warm weather.
Later on Community Pete posted one of his regular check-ups from the Edward River at the Deniliquin Riverside Caravan Park.
We’re not sure how much longer Pete will be in Deni, but we hope he enjoys the stay.
Elf mail
Paul and Vanessa Grant have put in many hours of Santa’s Helper duties this festive season.
To complement their Christmas lights decorations, they offer interactive experiences at their home.
It includes meeting Santa, and writing him a letter expressing their Christmas wishes.
More than 200 children took up the opportunity this year, and the Grants delivered responses from Santa back to them.
New Year’s Day sun
The weather has been kind over the last week for the festive season.
The beaches and outdoor facilities around town have been full, as always.
The way the weather is looking, it appears to be more of the same for the first days of 2026.
New Year’s Day, on Thursday, is predicted to be in the low to mid-30s, with little chance of rain.
While it will be mild compared to our usual blistering summer conditions, precautions are a must.
Remember to slip, slop, slap and wrap to protect yourself from sunburn, and keep up the water to prevent heat exhaustion.
And if you’re on the water - whether in be river, creek, public or private pool - please be safe.
Orana raffle winners
It was a busy Christmas for many community members.
Some however were fortunate enough to receive some Christmas treats via the Orana Christmas raffle.
First prize went to Susan McMahon, second prize was Dawn Hetherington, third was Karen Hay and the fourth and final prize was won by Leanne Landy.
Thanks, went to everyone for their support in getting tickets and of the raffle.
Boxing Day hot cross buns
It is a hot topic around the country each year, but the first sighting of hot cross buns seems to be getting earlier and earlier.
A Talkback correspondent has raised that they have seen hot cross buns in stores already following Christmas.
It is almost a tradition at this point, but the debate will continue whether the Easter treats should wait for the new year.
The silver lining is that those who love them don’t have to wait any longer to indulge.
