Deniliquin’s Salvos Store has just wrapped up its winter woolies initiative, which store manager Judy Bond said was well supported, and would help people and families in need.
Mrs Bond said the aim of the store is to “help everyone with the cost of living”.
She highlighted that the financial pressures on everyone has seen an increase in people buying from the store.
And to further incentivise donating to and purchasing from the Salvos Store, a new rewards program has been launched.
For every one dollar spent in store, the recipient will get a store point, which equates to five cents in value.
Mrs Bond said the rewards program, along with many of the store's other initiatives, is about creating a circular economy and enticing people to shop second hand.
The added bonus is a more sustainable environment, Mrs Bond said.
“When someone is done with something, and they give it to us - it’s all about sustainability.”
Mrs Bond said while more donations are always needed, she has asked they not be left at the store when it’s unattended to prevent dumping and theft.
“Donations are to be made during the working hours of 9am to 5pm weekdays, and 9am to 1pm Saturday,” Mrs Bond said.
“We are closed on Sundays.”
In addition to the winter woolies initiative, the Salvos Store has an in-store food bank.
Items are available at prices that are often cheaper than the supermarkets.
Donations of food and other non-perishable pantry items are always welcome.
