With river levels fluctuating and heavy rains exacerbating localised flooding, the Deniliquin-Conargo State Emergency Service Unit has been assisted in support efforts by the NSW Rural Fire Service, RFS mitigation teams and community members.
Deniliquin-Conargo Unit acting second in command Lachlan Wykes said calls for assistance have come from properties close to the Edward River, and particularly the Lawson Syphons area.
He said emergency services are getting to calls for help as quickly as they can.
“The SES appreciates your patience, and we are getting to everyone who requires help,” he said.
“It is an enormous effort filling, transporting and laying the sandbags.
“The teams are constantly refilling the sandbag stocks.”
Assisting local crews are members of the NSW SES storm and water damage team and flood rescue capabilities unit.
The Edward River at Deniliquin and Moulamein is still in minor flood, while Stevens Weir, Corowa and Barham are in moderate flood.
The Edward River at Deniliquin is likely to remain around 6m until mid-next week.
The Edward River at Stevens Weir downstream may reach around 6.3m late next week.
The Edward River at Moulamein may reach around 4.9 metres mid-October, with minor flooding.
Roads that may be impacted by water as a result include Amors Rd and Dhuragoon Rd, Narcurrie Rd, Pike Pike Land and Maddys Lane and Balshaw Rd.
At the time of going to print yesterday, the Edward River at Deniliquin was 5.84m.
It was a slight increase on the 5.7m recorded on Wednesday.
Locals are encouraged to keep an eye on the Deniliquin-Conargo SES Unit’s Facebook page for any calls for community assistance.
