School, sports leader stands out

Chelsea Weir has been recognised as Young Citizen of the Year for her outstanding contribution to the Edward River community through sport and leadership.

The award recognises young residents aged over 16 and under 30 who are making a significant difference within the Edward River region.

It also seeks to highlight those young people who epitomise the future of the nation through their community contributions and leadership.

Chelsea Weir was A-grade netball Best & Fairest for Blighty in 2025.

Chelsea coaches more than 85 children each week at Flipstars Gymnastics Club and has also coached junior netball at the Blighty Football Netball Club, sharing her love of sport and encouraging confidence, teamwork and healthy lifestyles.

“In 2024, she completed her Gold Gymnastics Coaching qualification and Coach Mentor accreditation, supporting and guiding younger coaches,” her citation read.

“She was also selected as Deniliquin High School Captain for 2024, where she represented her school and community.

“Balancing her volunteer commitments with Year 12 studies, Weir consistently demonstrated leadership qualities that make her a positive role model.”
