Just weeks after the event’s organising committee announced Paul ‘Sludge’ Andrews would attend, Glenn ‘Yogi’ Kendall has also been confirmed.
Both will appear at the Deniliquin & District Wall of Fame dinner next Friday, October 24, and make an appearance at the Truck Show the following day.
Yogi is known on the show for his iconic purple-and-white Kenworth rig, named ‘PJ’.
He’s had decades of experience in the transport industry, and is as passionate about it today as his first day.
He runs Kendall Trucking Co out of Katanning, Western Australia, and has clocked more than three million kilometres on the road.
His commitment to the industry goes beyond driving, with advocacy work including road safety awareness campaigns in partnership with the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator, through campaigns like ‘We All Need Space’.
In 2016, Yogi took out the Scania Truck Driver Competition, showing that his talent matches his trademark style.
Deniliquin Truck Show president Leesa Muir said the truck show is quickly gaining a reputation of having some of best in the industry attend as special guests.
She said landing two of the popular Outback Truckers stars adds to what is already shaping up to be a massive weekend.
“We’re proud of how far the Truck Show has some in the last 10 years, and we’re pleased to be having Sludge and Yogi here to mark our first decade of celebrating the industry in this way,” Ms Muir said.
“We continue to grow our partnerships to make this event bigger and better each year, with our new relationship with the Down Under Modified Tractor Pulling Association adding a bit of grunt with a twilight tractor pull this year.
“Combined with all our regular attractions - the Wall of Fame dinner and inductions, raffles, auctions, around the grounds entertainment and our show ‘n’ shine among them - we’re expected this year’s three day event to be talked about for some time to come.”
The Wall of Fame Dinner will be held at the Deni RSL on Friday, October 24, starting at 6.30pm. Tickets are $60 per person and include a two-course meal.
There’s only a limited number of seats available, and bookings close today. Go to www.trybooking.com/events/landing/1431604.
Saturday’s truck show will be hosted at the Deniliquin Ute Muster site, with camping available for the first time for an extra fee. Show tickets can be purchased at https://www.trybooking.com/DDLQF.
The weekend concludes with a transport industry memorial service on the Sunday, at the north Deniliquin rest stop.
