A heatwave set to rival one which coincided with the Black Saturday bush fires is being predicted in NSW and Victoria starting this week, promoting warnings from health authorities.

Murumbidgee Local Health District director public health unit Alison Nikitas said severe heatwaves can be dangerous for many people, especially older people, babies, children, pregnant and breastfeeding women, people with medical conditions and people who are unwell.
Maximum forecast temperatures for this week are in the high 30s to low 40s across the MLHD region, peaking later this week.
Overnight temperatures are not expected to drop below the low to mid-20s, and expected to extend the discomfort.
Ms Nikitas and her team offer the following advice:
• Seek a place to keep cool, such as your home, a library, community centre or shopping centre.
• Close your windows and draw blinds, curtains or awnings early in the day to keep the heat out of your home.
• If available, use fans or air-conditioners to keep cool.
