Seymour receives Community Food Relief grant

The Seymour District and Community House received over $42,000 in order to establish a large-scale dedicated food pantry and storage facility.

The grant will go towards providing a reliable and accessible food hub in support of the Seymour Food Relief Collaborative.

A total $4.5 million was allocated to the Community Food Relief Program, with community organisations and neighbourhood houses receiving up to $50,000 for individual projects and up to $75,000 for partnership projects to distribute fresh food and pantry staples.

Other grant recipients in the region include Waminda Community House, Cobram Community House, Myrtleford Neighbourhood Centre, Sustainable King Valley, Yarrawonga Mulwala Community and Learning Centre, Mooroopna Education and Activity Centre, Numurkah Community Learning Centre and South Shepparton Community House.

State Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes, who announced the recipients of the grants on January 7, said local organisations would have the responsibility of allocating funds to the community.

“We know our wonderful community organisations have the local knowledge and connections to best understand and respond to local needs, and to provide food relief where it’s needed most.”
