Shane Sali secures Nationals endorsement and will seek leave of absence from council

Shane Sali will stand as the National Party candidate for the seat of Shepparton in November’s state election and seek a leave of absence from Greater Shepparton City Council to conduct his campaign.

Mr Sali defeated prosecutor Alexander Lew at the preselection vote, held in Wungnhu on the morning of Saturday, September 5.

“I sincerely thank the party’s members and executive for the belief and trust they have placed in me,” Mr Sali said.

“I’m putting my hand up because I love this region and believe the people who live, work, raise their families and build businesses here deserve a strong voice in parliament.”

During Mr Sali’s leave of absence, mayoral duties will fall to Deputy Mayor Geoff Akers.

Mr Sali’s term as mayor is due to expire in late October.

Mr Lew congratulated Mr Sali and offered him his full support.

“I’m grateful to the Nationals members who supported me and proud that I gave members a genuine choice about who should represent them,” Mr Lew said.

“I commend anyone that is wanting to put their hand up and represent the region,” Mr Sali said of Mr Lew.
