Rotary Park was bustling with activity on Saturday morning with more 240 soccer players taking to the fields for round one of the 2019 season.
It was an ideal day for soccer where plenty of spectators made it an all-day event, with family members playing in all grades.
The club thanks all volunteers, canteen, referees, coaching, team managers and organisers for their hard work which is greatly appreciated.
Positions are available in the Open grade if anyone is interested in joining.
Soccer training for all A grade through to D grade players starts on Thursday, May 9 from 5pm until 6 pm. Wanderers coach Josh Perizzolo and assistant coach Jacob Hird will be co-ordinating these training sessions.
Open players are encouraged to join Wanderers training on Thursday from 6.30pm.
The High School social competition starts this Friday, May 10 followed by every second Friday night from there on. See the Deniliquin District Soccer Club Facebook page for more details.

A grade: A very close games this week with Koby Allitt scoring the only goal in the Victory v Heart clash with Dexter Hardman great in attack. Mariners and United saw Jess Hart level the game, however it was with an own goal.
Victory 1 defeated Heart 0. Best: Bethany Jansen, Masen Brain. Sportsmanship: Koby Allitt, Carmen Yuan.
Mariners 1 drew United 1. Best: Kaan Ozmen, Yuri Rhode. Sportsmanship: Caitlyn Saunders, George Fulton.
B grade: Some close games but with higher scores for all. Victory and United’s goal keepers had plenty of chances to show the abilities and didn’t disappoint with some spectacular efforts. Glory and Heart was a one sided affair but players still showed great sportsmanship while there was plenty of teamwork on show in Mariners and Roar.

Heart 11 def. Glory 4. Best: Josh Todd, Zac Andrews. Sportsmanship: Landon Daggett, Oliver Dunmore.
Victory 5 def. United 4. Best: Max Hillier, Hamish Baker. Sportsmanship: Nathan Coleman, Nicholas Yuan.
C grade: Only one close game but with a lot of players moving up from D grade they should find their feet in the coming weeks. Mariners and Roar saw a match between two Ives brothers — Jaxon and Oliver — with Oliver’s Roar team coming out on top. The defence of Amelia Smith, Brittney De Travers and Alana Jansen helped secure Victory’s win over United. Logan Andrews had the opportunity to show off his goal keeping skills.

D grade: D grade had many new faces coming up through the ranks. There was still a great deal of skill on display which is a testament to the coaches of the Joeys and Kangas in the past few seasons. Heart got to an early lead over Roar being 3-0 up at half time. Roar ran away with the game in the second half however, scoring six unanswered goals. Although it was a one sided match between United and Mariners there was vast improvement by Mariners during the game and it will be interesting to watch this team grow over the season.

Open: With only three teams this year the format of the competition is a round robin each week. All teams play the other two teams in 25 minute halves. The wind picked up by the middle of the day and definitely played a part in the results. The two wins of the day were when teams had the wind advantage. The highlight of the day was a long range shot by rookie Morgan Kirk, over the top of the keeper’s head which was great to watch.
