St Michael’s share NAIDOC celebrations

St Michael’s School held a welcoming open afternoon for its belated NAIDOC celebrations on Friday.

With NAIDOC Week falling in the winter school holidays this year, St Michael’s School deferred celebrations and on Friday hosted a sausage sizzle barbecue.

Parents, carers and special guests were invited to join students and staff, and also enjoy the cupcakes with icing presented as the Aboriginal flag.

Each door to a classroom or office was covered with a unique artwork celebrating NAIDOC Week.

Everyone had the chance to admire the ‘Deadly Doors’ art initiative, and special guests were able to vote for which door they liked best.

A special NAIDOC assembly was then held for the launch of the Wilcannia Forbes Acknowledgment of Country, and to showcase what students have been learning about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, history and achievement throughout the year.
