The impact of the devastating fire event at Deniliquin High School in the early hours of Saturday morning is far reaching, affecting current staff and students, former staff and students located across the country, community members and prospective students.
Many hours of dedicated service by our staff, students and community volunteers has been wiped away in a matter of hours.
Rightly, our community has recognised the service of emergency personal and the incredible effort they made in limiting the damage, in what at times must have seemed like a lost battle.
On behalf of the school community, the P&C acknowledges their efforts, and thank them for their service.
Deni High School P&C president Vince Kelly.
The focus of the P&C has always been the support of staff and students at DHS, and this remains our primary focus following the fire event.
Many members of the community are asking how they can help, offering assistance for whatever actions may be needed at this time.
However, at present it is not clear what is needed.
The P&C is working with school leadership to understand what help is needed and once we have an understanding of where our efforts will most benefit, we will seek the assistance of the community in delivering the support required.
In the meantime, we are open to your suggestions and will work to coordinate a community response with council, once we know where to focus our efforts.
All parents of current students should have received communication via Schoolbytes each day since the fire event.
It advised that formal communications from the school to parents will be made each day at about 5.30pm via Schoolbytes.
It is important that we rely on this formal communication for advice, rather than other sources, and have patience while plans are developed and communicated as more information comes to hand.
Whilst there is a lot of uncertainty on what the short term future looks like, what is certain is that with the support of community, DHS will continue to deliver quality education to the youth of our region and rebuild for the future.
