Each year, the company invites local schools and swimming clubs to participate in this long-running water safety initiative and contributes $10 for every child who completes an accredited learn to swim activity.
CEO Ron McCalman said Murray Irrigation is proud to have been sponsoring local children to participate in swimming and water safety lessons for more than 20 years through the program.
“Water safety is a vital life skill for children growing up in rural and regional environments, where rivers, dams, and irrigation channels are part of everyday life,” Mr McCalman said.
“We are looking forward to again supporting hundreds of children across the footprint build water confidence, learn vital safety skills, and have fun in the pool this summer.”
More than 1300 children participated in the program last year, including 20 Year 2 students from Deniliquin North Public School.
Class teacher April Tubb said the students had a fantastic time in the pool, while mastering lifelong skills that will help keep them stay safe in and around water.
Applications for this year's program - made possible through the support of the MIL’s customers - close on Monday, November 23.
