The Channel4Change founder has announced she is preparing to cross the treacherous 27km Cook Strait between the North and South Islands of New Zealand later this month.
It follows her successful crossing of the North Channel last year.
Ms Norman launched Channel4Change in 2018, when she was accepted to swim the English Channel.
The aim to raise awareness and funds for youth mental health and wellbeing initiatives.
Thanks to Channel4Change and Brenda’s efforts last year, the Deniliquin Mental Health Awareness Group will roll out further youth mental health first aid training in the next few months.
So Ms Norman has adopted a slightly different focus and goal for this month’s swim.
As a teacher at Deniliquin High School - which was largely destroyed by fire on November 29 - she has announced all funds raised through this campaign will support the Deniliquin High School P&C initiatives that enhance learning, wellbeing, and inclusion across the school community.
She believes every dollar can make a difference in replacing valuable lost resources and implementing wellbeing initiatives for students and teachers in 2026.
High School P&C president Vincent Kelly said all funds raised through the recently launched Deni High P&C fundraising campaign would be for similar outcomes.
“Funds go to Deni P&C (Parents & Citizens association) which is made up of volunteers.
“We want to give reassurance that while the fundraising is not going to the rebuilding of the school directly, it goes to the P&C who work out how best to support the school, working with the school on what the priorities are, in an open and transparent manner.
“Anyone can join the P&C by contacting the Deniliquin High School or by attending meetings, which are held every fourth Wednesday of the month in the boardroom of the administration building, or online, at 5.30pm.
“While the NSW Education Department and insurance will cover some of the costs in terms of bricks and mortar, there are additional costs which will not be covered, which is where the P&C steps in.
“For example, much of the oval will be taken up with classrooms, so the P&C can spend money on outdoor games or improvements to the multipurpose hall.”
