Expressions of interest are also open for a new independent peak body to represent recreational fishers.
The plan aims to boost participation, improve access, and support healthier waterways, with a strong focus on getting more women, kids and people with disabilities involved in the sport.
Among the highlights is a goal to bring re-stocking efforts up to 30 million fish across NSW.
The plan also proposes creating 50 new fishing sites, expanding Gone Fishing Day, and encouraging sustainable fishing practices.
There’s also a push to engage younger anglers, with the government noting the surge of fishing content and interest across social media.
Public consultation is now open until April 24, 2026, giving local fishers a chance to have their say on the future of the sport.
The independent peak body to be formed would assist in putting the plan in to action, and the search is on for a mix of experienced recreational fishers and people with strong leadership and communication skills.
