This was the case for the Bain family, who were tourists in their own backyard and went camping on private property for Easter.
The family did catch a cod on Easter Sunday, caught with worms and their trusty fishing rods, while fishing at Billabong Creek near Hartwood.
While they didn’t measure their catch, they knew it was much too small to keep.
So after Ash Bain took a quick snap (pictured), they put it back. But it was a good find nonetheless.
In the lead up to their cod catch, the family also caught around a dozen carp.
It wasn’t as exciting, but added to the fun of fishing for all involved across the Easter weekend.
Fishing is slowing down as the Edward River at Deni has dropped to a steady 1.88m, with no measured inflows for the past few days.
Downstream of Steven’s Weir, the river height is just under a metre.
