The NSW Government’s FishSmart app has surpassed 400,000 lifetime downloads, cementing itself as one of the state’s most‑used tools for recreational fishers.
Launched in 2015, FishSmart has grown into a genuine one‑stop resource for anglers, offering round‑the‑clock access to essential fishing information.
The free app includes a pictorial species guide, bag and size limits, closed seasons and gear rules, giving fishers quick clarity on regulations before they hit the water.
Its interactive mapping features have become a standout drawcard, allowing users to locate nearby fish aggregating devices, offshore artificial reefs, recreational fishing havens, Marine Park zones, closures and spearfishing areas in real time, which can be particularly useful to the travelling angler.
Local weather, tides, moon phases and barometric pressure are also built in, helping fishers plan trips with confidence.
Anglers can log their catches, report illegal fishing, fish kills or aquatic pests, and even purchase or renew their recreational fishing licence fee directly through the app.
Fishers can download FishSmart free, and join the hundreds of thousands already using it on the water.
