Organisers say limited tickets remain as excitement builds for what is shaping up to be one of the biggest weekends in the event’s history.
They say the number of visitors highlights the Challenge’s growing reputation as both a major tourism drawcard and a significant contributor to native fish recovery in the Edward River system.
Tonight’s opening program will set the tone for the weekend, with the hugely popular Mega Raffle kicking off proceedings, followed by a lively auction featuring items donated by local businesses and supporters.
Families are well catered for, with casting competitions, a jumping castle, ice-cream van and plenty of kids’ activities running throughout the evening.
The Challenge has become one of Deniliquin’s most important community events, combining tourism, environmental stewardship and family-friendly fun.
In the lead-up to this year’s competition, organisers oversaw the release of 30,000 golden perch fingerlings and 30 mature Murray cod, adding to the tens of thousands of native fish stocked since 2023 through Challenge fundraising and matched government grants.
Across the weekend, entrants will enjoy fishing sessions, entertainment, meals, kids’ attractions and the chance to win major prizes, including the coveted boat and motor package from Deniliquin Yamaha.
The Edward Kolety Fishing Challenge runs February 6 to 8 at Memorial Park. Registrations and raffle tickets are available at www.edwardfishingchallenge.com.au.
