The team is headed up by local vet Dr Nigel McMahon who has been in the industry for 15 years.
Born and bred in Deni, he spent eight years working around Australia before returning home to the family farm.
As the clinical lead, Dr McMahon has a particular passion for beef and sheep practice, reproduction and artificial insemination.
He also enjoys small animal surgery, including orthopaedics, but has found all of his work rewarding.
Newer to the practice are vets Dr Hope Semmler, Dr Deni Jansen and Dr Jemima Donovan.
Dr Semmler joined the team after graduating from Charles Sturt University in Wagga Wagga in 2018.
Based in Deni since, she has worked across several regional clinics in true country-vet fashion — a bit of everything, everywhere.
As part of her veterinary journey, Dr Semmler has found surgery is where her heart truly lies.
However, it's not all about the scalpel; she gets just as much satisfaction seeing a sick pet recover through good medicine.
Beyond companion animals, she has a strong interest in farming, particularly farming accreditation.
She regularly carries out pre-joining ram checks, brucellosis and Johne's disease testing for sheep producers throughout the region.
Dr Jansen joined the Deni team in April this year, drawn by the opportunity to continue working with large animals while being closer to her family.
Originally from Tongala, she first trained to be a vet in Perth and also worked in Scottsdale, Tasmania.
She worked in mixed practice, spending most of her time working with beef and dairy cattle (her favourite), and especially loves being outside working with large animals.
The vet nurse team is led by head veterinary nurse Chloe Johnson. Originally from Leeton, she has been in the industry since 2019 and part of the Deni team since 2022.
She is passionate about patient care and client education, with a particular interest in canine and feline dentistry and pathology.
The other accredited vet nurses are Rebecca Oddy, Maggie Camilleri, Patricia Robinson, Jessica Wills, Emily Whatman and Georgie Hanson.
Deni raised, Rebecca joined the clinic in 2006 as a trainee vet nurse after leaving Deni High School.
She always knew she wanted to work in the vet industry and, over the years, has completed many certificates and gained valuable experience.
According to her there is nothing better than seeing the smile on the owners’ faces on pick up, or the kids’ cuddles when their best friends are going home.
She also enjoys surgery, orthopaedics, X-rays, medical cases, diagnostics and pathology.
Maggie began her vet nursing journey in 2018 within the equine thoroughbred breeding industry, where her passion for caring for newborn foals quickly grew.
In 2021, she transitioned to mixed veterinary practice at Deni Vets, where she has continued to develop her skills and love of veterinary nursing.
Today, one of her greatest passions is providing the highest standard of care to our long-term hospital patients.
Patricia’s background is in equine stud and race management, including riding and mixed animal care.
She joined the team in 2023 and lives on a station with her partner and two children, giving her a strong connection to rural and animal care.
Patricia holds a Diploma in Horse Management and Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing, and in 2025 volunteered as a veterinary nurse in South Africa.
She’s passionate about animal welfare, client education, surgical procedures and emergency care across both small and large animals.
There are three trainee vet nurses developing their experience in the industry at Deni Vet Clinic are Sophie Hillier, Erin Chesworth and Dakota McKenzie.
Sophie has been at the clinic for just over a year, having started as an Animal Studies student.
She enjoys making animals feel safe, comfortable and cared for.
Erin started her career as a vet assist with Finley Vet Clinic in 2022 while still at school.
She is originally from a property halfway between Finley and Tocumwal, where they had beef and dairy cattle, and had cropping to supply feed.
She returned to Finley, and took a job with Deni Vet Clinic, last year.
Erin has a passion for large animals, particularly cattle, and an interest in in-clinic surgeries.
