Unless you’re Barry Ashton, it seems.
Orana Aged Care made a submission to Southern Cross Care’s annual Christmas wish initiative on Mr Ashton’s behalf, and it has been granted.
His wish was for the facility’s pet cat to live a long and happy life.
While a seemingly difficult wish to grant, Orana has done its best to spread the Christmas spirit in partnership with their Poictiers St neighbours at Deniliquin Fur Life Vet Clinic.
“Two years ago, Tilly found a loving home in Orana’s Memory Support Wing after a very rough start in life. Since then, he has become a cherished companion to our resident Barry,” the wish application read.
“Tilly’s dental health has been an ongoing challenge, and we’re hoping to raise funds for his veterinary care.
“Every contribution, big or small, will make a difference in giving Tilly the care he deserves.
“Your kindness will keep his purrs going strong.”
On Tuesday this week, members of the Orana team and Mr Ashton took Tilly to the clinic, where Maggie Camilleri and vet Nigel McMahon provided a health check and administered some necessary medication.
Mr McMahon said Tilly was in good general health, but will need to come back into the clinic shortly for a dental clean, to help with a bit of gingivitis.
Orana regional manager Amanda Cleary Schofield said Tilly has lived quite a life, and only has three legs, but is well loved at Orana.
She said having a pet around is helpful for residents to prevent loneliness, providing unconditional love.
She said the donation from Deniliquin Fur Life Vet clinic is a huge help to Orana, as a not-for-profit, to fulfil a resident’s Christmas wish.
