Katamatite Historical Society member Don McPherson said the society decided to construct a memorial to Ada Rudd with the time capsule in honour of her dedication to the community.
“She did a lot of research and documented the early settlers and their families, putting together the history of Katamatite,” Mr McPherson said.
“We’re very fortunate that we had someone who was so committed to it. It was a huge undertaking and after the 1976 100-year celebration, a historical society was formed.”

The memorial plaque to Ms Rudd was funded by the Lions club and unveiled at the Katamatite 150th anniversary weekend, with the time capsule also on display.
More than 120 people attended the unveiling, including members of the Rudd family.
Mr McPherson said a copy of each of Ms Rudd’s publications would be placed in the time capsule.
“We’ve also made envelopes available to the local community to put a message in, and they’ll all be placed in the time capsule, too,” he said.

The time capsule was donated by Furphey & Sons on February 17, with Adam Furphey and Don McPherson attending the handover.
Also at the handover was Ray Mills, a founding member of the Katamatite Historical Society and whose dad used to use Furphy’s tanks for fly dipping sheep.
In a couple of weeks, the time capsule will be taken back to Furphys, where it will be sealed and filled with Nitrogen to prevent oxidisation and deterioration.
The time capsule will then be buried under Ms Rudd’s memorial outside the Katamatite Historical Society building and won’t be opened again for another 25 years.
