Vehicles which are used to respond to an emergency bush fire incident may not need to be registered under a Farm Fire Fighting Vehicle trial running until the end of this month.

A collaboration between Transport for NSW and the RFS, the trial enables the use of private Farm Fire Fighting Vehicles (FFFVs) without registration, provided they meet specific eligibility criteria.
Vehicles must have fire-fighting equipment permanently attached, operate within a 100km radius of the storage address, and be maintained in a safe operating condition.
These measures ensure that while not registered, these vehicles are adequately equipped to assist in emergency situations and contribute effectively to firefighting efforts.
To nominate a farm fire fighting vehicle for the trial, you must submit a Farm Fire Fighting Vehicle nomination form and include two photographs.
One photograph should be taken from the front, which includes the driver’s side of the vehicle and one from the rear, which includes the passenger side of the vehicle.
Completed nomination forms should be sent to fffv@transport.nsw.gov.au.
For more information, and to complete the registration form, go to https://www.nsw.gov.au/driving-boating-and-transport/vehicle-registration/unregistered-vehicles and read the ‘When you can drive an unregistered vehicle’ section.
