A significant infrastructure upgrade has begun along the National Memorial WAAAF Creek Walk, with the replacement of three ageing timber bridges starting yesterday, July 15.
The project will see Bessies Bridge, Robert Bridge, and the Boardwalk Bridge replaced with reinforced steel structures, ensuring greater resilience and safety for public use.
The upgrades come in response to damage caused by recent flood events, which have compromised the structural integrity of the current wooden bridges.
The works are being jointly funded by the Australian and NSW governments under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements, aimed at improving public infrastructure impacted by natural disasters.
Construction is expected to result in restricted or closed access to sections of the WAAAF Creek Walk during the project period.
Foot traffic management measures will be in place to protect the safety of pedestrians and workers.
A map outlining the bridge upgrade locations has been provided for public reference, helping walkers and residents navigate the area during the construction phase, and can be viewed in the Berrigan Shire Council’s website.
Council advises residents and visitors to plan their routes accordingly, and thanks, the community for their patience and cooperation while these important works are carried out.
