It will showcase footage taken in March when host Bill Classon visited the local area.
The show’s producers provided the following synopsis of the program:
“Bill heads to Deniliquin, home of the Ute Muster, to get a taste of the cod fishing in the Edward River.
“He sees some great action out of a kayak with local angler Ian Fisher, stirring up some nice cod to high 60s on black and red Spinnerbaits.
“While there, Bill learns of the impact of the recent floods in the area, and how the recovery of the fishery is well under way.
“Joining them is Dr John Conallin, who explains how the catfish breeding program was set up in the heart of Deniliquin, helping build even better angling opportunities for the future.”
The program airs at noon.
Library works progressing
Upgrades at the Edward River Library are progressing well, as the first week of closure comes to an end.
It is closed for floor works and carpeting, which will conclude the rectification works that have been taking place.
Updates provided by the library show us that day one and two this week consisted of boxing up all the books, and dismantling most of the shelves.
Dunbar Removals & Logistics has assisted with process to date.
The library is expected to re-open at 10am on Monday, June 26.
Throughout the closure period, borrowers will still have access to the library’s online collections, at https://library.edwardriver.nsw.gov.au.
An exhibition with a difference
A new, thought provoking exhibition has just landed at the Deniliquin Peppin Heritage Centre.
‘100 CAPES. 100 STORIES.’ is an installation that was hand stitched by 100 women from across the country, and brought to life by music inspired by their stories.
The exhibition was curated by The House That Dan Built, and sees a series of red capes suspended in the exhibition space.
“During the 2020 lockdowns, 100 women from rural, regional, and metropolitan Australia were mailed a cape-making kit,” The House That Dan Built explains.
“As they pieced together the garment they were interviewed about their life by one of 15 young women who brought their stories back to The House.
“These stories of girlhood dreams and meaningful, vital, and ordinary life feature in the original soundtrack that accompanies the 100 capes installation.”
The exhibition can be viewed at the Peppin Heritage Centre until July 28.
Upper Murray flood warnings
It’s the most lucrative drop of rain we’ve received since late last year, and it seems the downpour is wreaking havoc is some areas of the Murray system.
The NSW SES has issued a flood warning for those in the upper Murray reaches this week.
The advice level ‘stay informed’ warning was specifically for those west of Khancoban to up stream of Hume Dam.
“River level rises are likely in catchments within the flood watch area, where minor flooding may develop from overnight Wednesday into Thursday,” the warning reads.
“Isolated moderate flooding is also possible in areas with the heaviest rainfall.”
No word yet on how this may impact on management of the Hume Dam, where air space measures were already being implemented in April to mitigate wetter month rainfall.
