Part of the international University of the Third Age movement, its goal is to educate and engage retired or elderly members of the community (those in their ‘third age’).
Deniliquin U3A activities run during the NSW school term, and resume this coming Monday.
Similar to terms 1 and 2, term 3 has a great mix of social activities and groups, and chances to increase knowledge.
Sessions are based at the Deniliquin RSL Club, unless otherwise specified.
Mondays and Wednesdays provide the highest number of opportunities.
Monday’s start with the walking group at 8am, with participants meeting at the Willoughby’s Beach entrance.
The Express Yourself Writing Group is then led by Dianne Hall from 11.30am to 12.30pm.
In term 3, there will be a later start to the sing-a-long with Phyllis Ball and Sheila Lea, which is now held from 1pm to 2pm.
The final Monday session runs from 2pm to 4pm, and is designed to help you get the most use out of your iPad and iPhone.
On Wednesday’s, there are two different sessions held from 11am to 12pm.
You can attend a discussion group hosted by Tom Oram at the RSL, or pop along to the South West Music Regional Conservatorium in Cressy St to strum along with Gai Burchfield on the ukulele. Instruments are provided.
From 12pm to 1pm on Wednesdays is the Scattegories/games session, which is in a slightly later time slot than in Term 2.
Mahjong is also held on Wednesdays, from 2pm to 4.30pm.
Canasta is the only scheduled activity for Thursdays, running from 10.30am to 12.30pm. This activity is hosted at the Coach House Hotel.
The first Friday of each month is set aside for special meetings - the committee meeting from 10am, and the chance to hear from some great guest speakers from 11.30am to 12.30pm.
These are followed by lunch at the Deniliquin RSL Club, to which all members are welcome.
Queries regarding the timetable can be directed to Lorraine Plant on 0414 486 482. Anyone interested in being a guest speaker is also invited to contact Lorraine.
