The Oaks Day luncheon is bringing the community together for a wonderful day of auctions, entertainment and fundraising at Moama Bowling Club on November 5.
Vivid engagement manager Kelly Johns said the event’s proceeds were used to purchase equipment for its day programs and accommodation facilities ― such as microphones and podcasting equipment for a new media program.
“The money raised from Oaks Day goes into buying new equipment, giving our participants opportunities to explore podcasting and filming,” Ms Johns said.
Vivid participants are also actively involved in organising the luncheon ― from distributing promotional flyers to local businesses and helping secure raffle donations, to lending a hand on the day itself.
The lunch will feature raffles, silent and live auctions, a Calcutta, sweets and live entertainment from Georgina Bishop, with John Moyle returning as MC.
But don't let tradition fool you: Vivid is inviting both men and women to this year’s Oaks Day, making it a warm, welcoming space for everyone, whether you’re bringing a friend or coming solo.
Ms Johns said a big challenge currently facing people with disability and their families was uncertainty surrounding changes to the NDIS, particularly around future funding and support.
The changes have left some participants and their families feeling anxious and uncertain about what the future may hold.
Even so, she noted the region was generally welcoming and inclusive of people with disability, while being mindful she could not speak to the personal challenges faced by those with their own lived experience.
Ms Johns also extended her heartfelt thanks to local businesses and sponsors for donating prizes and backing the event, saying their generosity was what truly made the fundraiser possible.
The Oaks Day lunch will be held at Moama Bowling Club from noon to 5pm, with the venue proudly counted among its major supporters.
