We live in interesting political times.
There are constant attempts by the media and political opponents to denigrate or ‘catch out’ our new Federal Member for Farrer David Farley, including last week’s attempts to suggest he may desert One Nation for Labor, which he has vehemently denied.
Regardless of what Mr Farley does with his political career, there is one aspect that cannot be questioned: He is fighting tooth and nail for his electorate, in particular around water policy and the Murray-Darling Basin Plan.
David Farley, like our NSW Member for Murray Helen Dalton, have greater knowledge of the Basin Plan and its impact on our communities than any other individuals in parliament at either federal or state level.
They know the Basin Plan is failing our nation and will continue to do so for many years unless there is a reset.
Mr Farley’s call for a major overhaul of the plan should not go unheeded, and likewise Mrs Dalton’s push for a Royal Commission into water management would help uncover some of the political games, even corruption, that is plaguing efforts to deliver the fair and balanced plan our communities were promised.
For more than 20 years we have been the sacrificial lambs in the political battle to win environmental votes, regardless of the cost to hardworking Australians or our national food sovereignty.
Over this period, too often we have had local representation focused on toeing a party line, rather than fighting for those in our electorate.
At least we have individuals with our best interests at heart.
Yours etc.
