Three large raw water pumps have been replaced, along with other assets essential in ensuring a reliable water supply for the Deniliquin community.
The raw water pump station serves as a vital asset, transporting water from the Edward River 1.8km to the Deniliquin water treatment plant in Lloyd St.
Originally constructed in the 1980s, the pumps, pipework and switchboard had reached the end of their working life.
Edward River Council and NSW Public Works engaged the expertise of EMT Pty Ltd to carry out the upgrade, which was scheduled to take place outside peak water usage periods, ensuring minimal disruption to the community.
Mayor Peta Betts said the significance of the project highlights the council’s commitment to safeguarding Deniliquin’s water supply.
“Our community would normally never see this infrastructure, so it’s important to shine a light on the assets that provide an essential service of clean and safe drinking water to Deniliquin,” she said.
Council’s manager of engineering and assets Katrina Bennett commended the project team for their efforts to minimise any impact on the community throughout the project.
“We are proud of the dedication of our teams to deliver this project on time and within budget, despite its complexity,” Ms Bennett said.
“The successful completion of this upgrade shows council’s commitment to meeting operational requirements and maintaining reliable water and sewerage infrastructure.”
