Just after 11.10pm, emergency services were called to a home on Wakool Rd, Deniliquin.
On arrival, officers attached to Murray River Police District were told a 53 year-old woman was assaulted and stabbed by a man known to her at a house nearby.
She was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics for non-life-threatening injuries before being taken to a hospital for further treatment.
She has since been transferred to Melbourne, where she was yesterday reported to be in a stable condition.
Following inquiries, police attended another home on Wakool Rd about 12.40am Sunday and arrested a 65 year-old man.
He was taken to Deniliquin Police Station, where he was charged with cause wounding/grievous bodily harm to person with intent to murder (DV).
He was refused bail and appeared before Bail Division Local Court 5 Sunday, and again refused bail.
He is next due to appear before Griffith Local Court on July 16.
