Women in business: Paula Rutter

Business you work for/own: St George Bank.

Role/position: Branch Manager, and I am also Deniliquin Business Chamber president.

How many years in that position: Three.

Previous experience leading to that position: I started work at Westpac in Bunyip when I finished my HSC in 1983, and worked my way through different branches and positions for the next 10 years. I then pursued various other things prior to coming back to what I know best.

Did you experience any challenges, as a woman, reaching the level you are at? How did you overcome them? Not really, there are a lot of women in banking, however would love to see some more at the very top. Banking is an extremely challenging environment at the moment but if you make your customer priority number one at all times, then it is an extremely rewarding career.

What advice would you give to other women wanting to enter same industry? Go for it — I think that anyone can do anything and nothing should stop someone from pursuing a fabulous career in banking.
