It was an incredible and energising day which brought together members from across the zone for connection, growth, and leadership development - including the Coly/Darlington Point region.
The group was privileged to hear from Ann Buesnel, whose honest and inspiring reflections on her leadership journey resonated strongly across the room.
Sharing both the challenges and rewards of leadership, Ann left the group with one powerful message that will stick with participants: “Always reach behind, and a reminder to lift others as we climb”.
The group was also honoured to hear from the RFS’ own Kelwyn White, who spoke openly about her journey, reinforcing the strength found in authenticity, resilience, and backing yourself.
The day was rounded out with a dynamic panel of leaders from across brigade life - logistics, captains, and beyond - sharing real-world insights into leadership in all its forms.
And to finish? The team got their hands dirty with practical exercises, including working through a fast-moving grassfire escalating into a wooded area and a motor vehicle accident with possible persons trapped.
This was a fantastic opportunity to apply skills, think critically, and work together under pressure.
A huge thank you to Ann Buesnel, Kelwyn White, Julia O'Connell, Belinda James and Phyllis Ball for being open, honest, and genuinely encouraging to all who attended.
Days like this remind everyone that leadership isn’t about “just” - it’s about capability, growth, and backing each other every step of the way.
