In an update issued last week, the NSW Department of Education said cranes and other machinery would access the school via the Junction St gates for clean-up and temporary classroom set-up purposes.
“Following a fire at Deniliquin High School that damaged four school buildings, the NSW Department of Education is working to safely reopen areas of the school and construct temporary facilities on a section of the school oval,” the department said.
“To ensure the site is made safe and the temporary school is ready for students to return in time for day one, Term 1 2026, we will continue working throughout the school summer holidays.”
Installation of temporary demountables is expected to start today, and will continue over the coming weeks.
At least 33 will be added to the site to be used as classrooms and staff areas.
This will involve using mobile cranes to lift buildings off trucks onto the site, and trucks entering and exiting via Junction Street, with traffic control in place to ensure safety.
Once installed, each building will then be connected to water and electricity.
At the same time, work to secure and clean the fire damaged buildings will continue.
This involves ongoing air monitoring and hygienist checks within the damaged areas, clearing and removal of damaged materials, structural support of key walls and floors, and further cleaning and decontamination.
