Mr Dann questions my logic when it is obvious by his response that he has not understood what I was saying.
Maybe a case of seeing everything through LNP eyes!
My premise in my letter was that to get anything meaningful done in this electorate it needs to become marginal.
To put it quite simply for Mr Dann:
1. If the Nats are comfortably re-elected locally and Labor elected federally, we will get very little, as has been the case in the past. No point spending in Nicholls because the residents will never vote Labor in.
2. If the Nats are elected comfortably and the LNP wins federally, they will toss us a few crumbs to keep us quiet (like $20 million for the sports stadium). No need to work hard in Nicholls — they vote us in anyway.
3. But if we had an independent member in Nicholls or the Labor and LNP vote was very close, both major parties would start throwing money at Nicholls because they would see a chance to take/retake the seat.
It’s a pretty simple concept.
As a parting thought, for the incumbent Nationals member to preference as second the racist, homophobic, climate-denying party, One Nation, second just shows how far to the right the Nationals have moved and is in itself a good reason not to vote Nationals.
