Allan Tonta was elected president of the Deniliquin Croquet Club at its annual general meeting on Sunday.
Outgoing president Gwen Pearn welcomed Tonta to the role after reporting on a successful year, noting the increased number of new players to the club.
All positions on the committee were also filled: vice president John James, secretary Dot Murphy, treasurer Meyerene Geldenhuys and general committee Andy Davis, Mary James, Brian Dudley and Tony Bull.
Competition play returned on Wednesday with 20 players taking part. Alan Higgins stood tall as the only three-game winner, scoring 24 hoops. Runner-up was Peter Whittakers, a two-game winner with 27 hoops, and third was Brad Fawns with two games and 22 hoops.
Nine jump shots were achieved on the day — four for Brian Dudley, three for Andy Davis and one each for Peter Whittakers and Alan Higgins. A hoop-in-one was achieved by both Brian Dudley and Tony Bull.
Competition play will continue each Wednesday and Sunday, 12.30pm for 1pm start.
In accordance with the current NSW COVID-19 restrictions, only 20 players at a time will be permitted to participate. Come early to ensure a game. Coffee and tea will be available.
In order to support new players, qualified coach and club captain John James will be giving tutoring sessions by appointment.
