A big field of players will contest the fourball best ball event across Saturday and Sunday, with strong support from local and visiting golfers.
There will be men’s and ladies 18 hole events on both Saturday and Sunday, plus 36 holes scratch and handicap over the two days.
The club again expresses its appreciation to sponsors the Purtill Group and Wired Entertainment.
The course is in magnificent condition after receiving a decent ‘drink’ earlier this week, and with ideal autumn weather predicted there should be plenty of good golf on offer.
Last Thursday we had 9 and 18 holes stableford. The 9 hole winner was Pauline Sherwin with 21 points from runner-up Rae Lawrence 17, and 18 hole winner was Sarah Aitken 36 on countback to Vicki Brunker.
Saturday was also stableford, with three grades.
A-grade winner was Gary Stephens with 40 points from runner-up Darren Mitchell 38; in B-grade Albert Liebenberg showed a new lease on life to set the pace with 41 points, winning on countback to Graeme Rothwell, and the juniors dominated in C-grade, won by Bentley Hardman with 38 from runner-up Rivah Taylor 37.
Tuesday’s 9 hole winner was Steph Birk with 18 points from Lou Graham 16.
On Wednesday, Matt Thomas had a superb six under par round to record 39 points and win A-grade, from runner-up Andrew ‘Taffy’ Brunker on 38. B-grade winner was Ron ‘Moot’ Turner with 36 on countback to Geoff Mulham, and C-grade winner Tim Chartres with 38 from runner-up Rivah Taylor 37.
Coming up we have the aforementioned Autumn Classic this weekend, followed by 9 holes stroke on Tuesday and stableford on Wednesday.
It’s then a string of stroke events as we get into the 2026 Club Championships, with the ladies championships starting next Thursday, then the men’s on Saturday.
The latter will be played over three rounds, with the final round comprising the top eight in each grade.
Our junior golf program continues to go from strength to strength, with the inaugural team in the Golf NSW Encourage Shield competition.
A six player squad competed against Murray Downs in the first round, playing well in adverse conditions that were interrupted by rain.
Congratulations to team members Rivah Taylor, Jaxon O’Donnell, Lachie Tritton, Jack McGrillen, Harvey Campbell and Ned Campbell.
The next round will be at Barham on Sunday, March 22.
The club also hosted the Riverina Lefties on Sunday, with the best men’s score recorded by Ross Hedley (Yarrawonga/Mulwala) with 40 points and the best ladies’ score was Nicola Robinson (Cobram/Barooga) with 39. Best of the locals was Leigh Chappell with 34 points.
