Before the game, both sides wore colourful hats showing support and raising $855 for Cobram junior cricketer Cooper Betts and his family.
The 12 year-old has been a part of the Cobram Cricket Club for almost four years, along with his parents in support roles, and was diagnosed with leukaemia just a few weeks ago.
He is undergoing treatment at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne.
When the match got under way, the Rhinos lost the toss and were sent in to bowl first.
The Saints’ opening batters showed intent to swing from the start, getting the score to 32 off the first five overs.
Senaka Lakmal then provided the first breakthrough, getting Jeremy Packer caught by Noah Bradley for four.
Chris Pyle then came on to bowl, almost dismissing opener Ross, and two overs later bowled Lachie Pyle without scoring.
Noah Bradley came into the attack, getting Ross out for 44, caught by Anthony Bradley at short cover.
This lead to an early drinks break at the start of the 15th over.
Over the next 15 overs, Saints batters Troy Poynton and Andrew Parr got settled, putting away the bad ball, batting through to the following drinks break.
Archie Beehag got the breakthrough wicket of Poynton for a top score of 75 off a short ball, caught by Hamish Baker at deep square leg.
Things got heated between both sides before Stephen Marshall got the wicket of Andrew Parr for 38, with a chipped shot caught by Noah Bradley at cover.
Henry Pisasale got a reward for consistent bowling from his spells, getting Luke Melville for 16.
He was caught at backward point by Chris Pyle off the second last ball of the innings.
Jordan Swann and Graeme Parr remained unbeaten as the Saints finished their 40 overs, batting 6/220.
For the Rhinos, Jonty Tubb and Rowan Frazer opened the batting in the heat, with the cloud cover having disappeared.
The openers got off to a good start, seeing off the new ball before Tubb was dismissed for seven at the end of the seventh over.
He was trying to put away a short ball from Fraser Haintz, which was caught by wicket keeper Andrew Parr.
Hamish Baker joined Frazer at the crease, both getting through to the first drinks break after 15 overs.
Trying to increase the run rate, Baker was out for 15. He edged a full swinging ball from left armer Matthew Whelan, and it was caught by wicket keeper Parr.
Noah Bradley then came out to the crease and got off the mark before being bowled off Haintz, chopping on in the next over for one.
Chris Pyle replaced him at the crease. He and Frazer batted for nine overs before the latter was out for 31 off the bowling of Lachie Pyle.
He skied a poorly executed pull shot to Matt Ross at mid-wicket.
Anthony Bradley came out to bat and combined well with Pyle for two overs before the set batter succumbed to the heat and was bowled by Lachie Pyle.
Anthony was next to go, out for 10 three overs later, after smashing a ball from the off spin of Luke Melville to be well caught by Haintz at cover.
Lachlan Marshall replaced Bradley in the middle and got to scoring early.
Lakmal, who had been in for four overs, was then unlucky to be given out LBW for nine off the bowling of Lachie Pyle in the 34th over.
The next batter, Stephen Marshall, was similarly unlucky in the following over, deemed to have edged the ball from Lachlan Packer to wicket keeper Parr. He was out for one.
From there, Lachlan Marshall and Darcy Finn showed plenty of determination.
They made the Saints bowl 40 overs, batting through to the end of play.
Lachlan finished on 20 not out and Finn on five not out, finishing on 8/142.
Ultimately, it wasn’t enough for the Rhinos, as the Saints won by 78 runs.
