The rise in water, and water temperature, has seen great numbers of cod being caught over the past couple of weeks.
Whether you’re using bait or lure at the moment, you are a chance of catching a good fish - it seems that the whole river system has come to life.
Brodie McQuie started his season off with a cracking 112cm cod caught using a Koolabung surface lure.
Not only did he catch that giant, he and his mate Jordan Treble have landed more than 40 cod since the season opened on December 1.
Max Reeves also landed a couple of monsters, his biggest going 110cm, also on a surface lure.
Robert Whyte camped a couple of nights out at Benarca with a few of his mates, and the Bendigo boys had a great time.
Between them they landed seven legal cod on lures and spinnerbaits, ranging from 57cm to 68cm.
Robert led the way with a cracking 103cm on a 1oz fluoro green spinnerbait.
Bec Wardlaw had a fishing session she won’t soon forget landing not one, but two cracking cod not far from Mathoura.
Bec amazingly reeled in a 98cm and a 102cm cod, trolling a 75mm Oargee lure. Great work Bec.
Glenn Shane also reeled in a fish of a lifetime, measuring in at 114cm.
Glenn caught his beast on a piece of Bega cheese just upstream from Twin Rivers boat ramp.
He also caught 15 cod ranging from 50cm to 70cm.

Logan was fishing just downstream from the boat club.
Jai ‘Didget’ Ezzard somehow managed to land his first cod on a lure after many hours of casting.
Most of that time spent untangling his birds nests.
Jai caught a 65cm cod on a yellow and red Old Mate lure.
Pete and Tic O’Toole reeled in some nice cod off the bank near the Lawson Syphon.
The pair managed two around 65cm and one about 85cm. Great work.
Lastly, you know the fish are on the chew when Bobby Hall is reeling them in.
Bobby managed a few small cod fishing near the Sloane St boat ramp.
Don’t be fooled by the high water nor its colour, the fish seem to be very active at the moment and it is well worth casting in a line.
Also be careful whilst on the water. There is quite a bit of debris floating down, so to be on the safe side slow down and keep an eye out.
