Both the A-grade and B-grade sides host Cobram in respective one-day Murray Valley Cricket Association matches at Memorial Park tomorrow.
A-grade also have a game scheduled for Sunday, in Deniliquin on Sunday.
A-grade’s Saturday match starts at 12.30pm in its first meeting with Cobram since last season’s grand final, this time in the 45 over format.
The last one-day match between the teams was in round seven last season, which the Rhinos won by six wickets, chasing 175 runs in 44 overs at Cobram.
In that match, the top scorers for the Rhinos were Andrew Hogan on 88 not out and Griegan French on 65.
Hogan (3-30), Lachlan Holloway (3-37) and Boddie Arthur (2-31) were the multiple wicket takers for Deni.
Cobram should field a very similar side to the one that met and bested the Deni Rhinos is the MVCA grand final last year.
Shaun Downie, Daniel Ellis, Lachlan and Eamon Hyde are the primary run scorers for Cobram based on recent form, and Adam Decicco, Jimmy Daniel and Jeremy Baden are all dangerous with the ball.
After two rounds this season, both sides are undefeated, with the Rhinos having defeated Katamatite and Tocumwal while Cobram have defeated Katunga and Katamatite.
Sunday’s match will also be from 12.30pm at Memorial Park, against an undefeated Nathalia.
When the two sides last faced off in a one-day match in round four last season, Nathalia won by one wicket on their home pitch, chasing 184 with four overs left.
In that match, Hogan top scored for Deni with 52 not out, Prem Muppidi (2-4) and Hogan (2-25) had the best figures of Rhinos who have played this season.
Nathalia have won the only game they played this season in A-grade with a thrilling one run win against Barooga last weekend with one ball left in the innings.
Ewan Congues (80) and Brenton Campbell (31) top scored for Nathalia, while Archie Congues (3-48), Dylan Cunningham (2-30), Scotty Morris (2-23) and Campbell (2-22) all helped defend 194 last week and will pose a challenge for the Rhinos on Sunday.
The Rhinos B-grade team also take on an undefeated Cobram side at Memorial Park tomorrow from 1pm.
After a round one win by 86 runs against Katamatite, the side forfeited last weekend’s match due to a lack of players.
Deni will be keen to take on a Cobram side that had a two wicket win against Jerilderie in round one and also beat Katamatite by four wickets last weekend.
Junior cricket
Junior cricket is fully under way this week, with the under-13s starting their season with a T20 away against Berrigan this afternoon from 5pm.
The under-15s will look to continue their winning ways, starting a two-day match away against Tocumwal from 8.30am tomorrow morning.
The under-12s local competition starts today from 5pm at Memorial Park, and Rhinos Blast will be held at the Deni Stadiumtoday from 4pm to 4.40pm.
Wheel of Fortune social event
With both senior sides at home for the first time together this season tomorrow, the club will be holding its first social event of the season, featuring the club’s ‘Wheel of Fortune’.
In this fun activity, a vehicle will lap the oval until its fuel is depleted. The participant named on the marker closest to where it stops will receive a $500 prize.
