The Rhinos require 144 more runs with six wickets left in hand in the final day of play.
On day one, last Saturday, the Rhinos won the toss and elected to bowl first.
Despite the efforts of Katty’s Ewan Wilson (89), Rohan Allport (36) and Lachlan Raggett (17) the Rhinos kept all other batters to single figure scores, bowling the side out for 168 in 56.2 overs.
In reply, Rhinos batting innings for the rest of the afternoon saw the Rhinos lose 4/6 from their first seven overs before batters Griegan French and Rory Bartlett steadied the innings to take the score to 4/25 at stumps.
French (15 not out) and Bartlett (four not out) will resume at the crease tomorrow.
Archie Daniel (2/11) and Ewan Wilson (2/10) were the main culprits with the ball for the away side and will be aiming to continue their bowling from this weekend.
All forms of win, loss, draw and tie are possible with a full day’s play set to be available to both sides.
In the B-grade, the Deni Rhinos travel to play hosts Katunga in the return fixture of the match up tomorrow.
The Rhinos won the previous match between the two sides earlier this season, three weeks ago at home, by 96 runs.
However, Katunga at home provide a different challenge, a chance to keep Katunga winless.
In the junior competitions, the under-15s have the second week of their bye, while the under-13s are set to play Tocumwal at Memorial Park from 5pm this afternoon.
Junior cricket this evening coincides with the Rhinos’ Christmas party for the entire club at the clubrooms, following cricket.
There will be lollies for the kids and a barbecue provided. The bar will be open, and there will be a Christmas raffle.
