On Saturday, we had a stableford aggregate, won by James and Harold Clapham with 75 points, from runners-up Jason Kerr and Denise Hunter on 73, with third place to Marg Radeski and Carol Hardman 71.
Last Thursday was stroke and the best score of the day was A-grade winner Felicity McCalman with net 70 from A-grade runner-up Jen Choice 72.
B-grade winner was Prue Grant net 71 from runner-up Denise Hunter 74.
On Wednesday, the A-grade winner was Warren Bull with 38 points from runner-up Geoff Bracken 37, and B-grade winner was David Connolly with an impressive 43 points from runner-up Jeff ‘Dickie’ Grant on 38.
On Sunday, two pairs of Deniliquin golfers travelled to Leeton to play in the Riverina Mixed 4BBB.
Margaret and Graeme Rothwell and Jen Choice and Ross Pogonoski played in a field of 32 pairs from across all Riverina clubs.
While not featuring in the winners, Graeme Rothwell did come away with two NTPs, both resulting in great birdies.
On Wednesday and Thursday, Deniliquin hosted a Rules of Golf seminar presented by Andrew Robb of Golf NSW and David Blake, formerly of Golf Australia.
There were 15 participants from the Riverina area, including four Deniliquin golfers, John and Margaret Radeski and Ross Pogonoski and Jen Choice.
The course included theory and on course practical lessons. All clubs will benefit from the enhanced knowledge the players will take back to their clubs.
Coming up we have a 2-person ambrose and men’s Keno event tomorrow, nine holes stableford on Tuesday, then stableford events on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday. Next Sunday is the Mixed Foursomes Championship.
Spring will be upon us before we know it, and that will bring lots of golfing action including the ladies Double Date event, Spring Classic (later than usual), Veterans Week of Golf, PGA Seniors Open qualifier and Pro-Am and the WRDGA championships, which we will host in October.
One of the more popular events on our annual calendar each year is the MND Charity Day, held in June.
This week it was announced that about $120,000 has been raised locally for this cause in the last five years thanks to the efforts of event organisers Noel and Jenny Swainger, with major sponsor Coles and the support of many community sponsors.
This ongoing support is much appreciated.
In the clubhouse, tonight is Indian Cuisine Night with a range of dishes – adults $25 and children $15.
As usual, there will be happy hour from 6pm, raffle tickets on sale from 6pm with draws from 7pm.
