After consistent form throughout the rounds, the Spartans topped the ladder in first place, while the Leftovers secured a well‑earned third heading into finals.
The Leftovers fought hard in their playoff for third, finishing the match in a tense and well‑deserved tie.
Leftovers player, Sam Strong, finished as the men’s leading try‑scorer for the entire competition, a major achievement for both him and the team.
The Spartans advanced to the finals but were beaten in a tough, fast‑paced contest.
“We just let it slip; lack of discipline,” player Mason Brown said.
“It was a good game, a good experience.”
Despite the loss, the Spartans’ top‑of‑the‑ladder finish and strong season form remain a point of pride.
Both teams represented Deniliquin with grit, sportsmanship and plenty of heart, earning praise from organisers and fellow competitors.
With the Echuca season now complete, attention turns to the local scene as the Deniliquin Summer Touch Competition kicks off on February 2, promising another big year for Deni touch.
A social game of touch for teens and adults is held every Tuesday at Deniliquin Rotary Park, starting at 6.30pm. All are welcome.
