There were 28 teams which enjoyed perfect autumn weather and helped to raise valuable funds for the Deniliquin RSL Sub-branch.
The winning team comprised George and Harry Kenney-Herbert, alongside Thomas Bult and Jackson Campbell, with an excellent score of net 55.
Runners-up were Darren Mitchell, Angie Kelly, Jack Allsop and Rhys Thommers on net 57, taking that trophy on countback.
The successful event was another example of the increasing popularity of local golf, especially the ambrose and social events which cater for golfers of all levels.
In other events over the past week, last Thursday was also four-person ambrose, won by Linda Brant, Marg Marshall, Jan Lord and Anita Gorsuch with net 59.62, from runners-up Esther Bolton, Coral Maher, Rae Lawrence and Vicki Brunker on net 60.5.
There was a smaller than usual field on Saturday in the stableford event, with many other Anzac Day activities taking place.
A-grade winner was Scott Tritton on 37 points from runner-up Thomas Bult 36, and B-grade winner Nick Metcalfe 39 from runner-up Callum Honey 37.
On Tuesday, it was back 9 holes off the yellow markers and the winner was Marg Menadue with 23 points from runner-up Jan Lord 21.
Wednesday’s A-grade stableford winner was Jaxon O’Donnell with 42 points from runner-up Wayne Hodgson on 40, and in B-grade the winner was Rivah Taylor with 38 points on countback to runner-up Angus Knuckey.
On Monday, a contingent of Deni golfers travelled to Kiala for the Goulburn Valley Veterans stableford event. While there were no local grade winners, figuring in the ball comp were Geoff Corboy and Norm Purtill.
This week, there has also been a group of Deni golfers competing in the Cobram/Barooga Seniors Tournament.
Results will be provided next week.
Coming up we have stroke and monthly medal day tomorrow, 9 holes stroke on Tuesday, stableford on Wednesday and stroke/monthly medal on Thursday.
Next Saturday will be a fourball best ball event and qualifier for the Eastman Knockout.
Other events coming up include the Deniliquin Ladies Open on Friday, May 22, and the Deniliquin Men’s Open on Saturday, May 23.
There will be scratch and handicap events on both days, with 9.30am assembly for 10am shotgun start on the Saturday and Sunday.
The Winter Classic will be held on Saturday and Sunday, June 6 and 7.
This year it will be four-person ambrose each day, with separate events each day for men and women, plus 36 hole events.
The next round of junior golf clinics will start next Wednesday, May 6.
These popular clinics have led to a surge in junior golf, with some very promising young players now making their mark at the club.
The clinics are the ideal place to start.
This is a five week program where participants learn the basics of golf through games and drills in a fun and safe environment.
Primary School clinics are from 3.30pm and High School from 4.30pm.
