Noel had a net 69 to win the A-grade event and men’s medal on Saturday, while Jayne also had net 69 to win A-grade and the ladies’ medal on Thursday. Respective grade runners-up were Vince Kelly with net 72 on Saturday and Ali Ferguson net 70 on Thursday.
The B-grade winner on Saturday was Lyn O’Brien 71 from runner-up Brian Jennings 72, and C-grade winner George Kenney-Herbert 71 from runner-up Wendy Pekin 72.
On Thursday, the B-grade winner was Esther Bolton 69 from runner-up Ann Bull 71.
A stableford event was played on Wednesday, when the weather decided it was time for a return to winter, and as a result only a dozen or so intrepid souls battled the elements.
The winner was Anthony Erickson with a very impressive 41 points, from runner-up Kerran Leetham on 35.
Coming up, today the ladies will play for the Mary Bradshaw Bowl with a stableford event, and tomorrow is a medley foursomes including the men’s foursomes championship.
Next Tuesday the 9 hole championships will be played, followed on Wednesday by the usual stableford, then stableford again on Thursday and Saturday, with the latter for the George Guy Trophy.
Planning is well underway for the PGA Legends Tour, which will be back in Deniliquin this year with two great days of golfing action. Monday, October 27 will be the NSW Seniors Open Pre-qualifier, with the Pro-Am on Tuesday, October 28.
The Pro-Am will see three amateurs in a three-person ambrose, with a professional golfer playing stroke. Registrations will open soon, with sponsorship opportunities also available. Contact the club for details.
Also coming up is the popular Summer Sixes competition, which will start on October 20 and continue until the end of daylight savings, with a break for Christmas/New Year. So get your team organised and register at the Pro Shop. If you don’t have a team, advise of your interest as an individual, and a team needing an extra player can be found.
The club will host the WRDGA Western Riverina Championships on October 11 and 12, with registrations now open. Saturday will be men’s and ladies’ fourball best ball, and Sunday will be men’s and ladies’ stroke.
On the social side, the annual Footy Tipping Dinner will be held on Friday, September 19. This is always one of the biggest social events of the year for the club. Please RSVP to Neil Boswell.
